In my now annual seed influx from the Hardy Plant Society seed scheme, I signed up for a lucky dip packet which is made up from loose seeds. These will have been escapees from envelopes, spillage from the silver teaspoons used for scoops, that kind of thing. They are unidentified, a mystery. I sowed them back in January and over the last few months they have been germinating and growing on.
A month has passed since the last update. Like plants do, there has been some growth, and after my embarrassing overfeeding a month or two back, I think I have avoided killing any more plants. I’ve sorted them into groups of similar looking plants.
Here they are in all their late-spring glory.
Finally, there’s this strapping fellow, who grew very fast. He has outgrown two homes, and now resides in a 3L pot.
Did you spot any you know? Drop me a comment below with your ID!
I’ll be back in a month or so with an update.
number two definitely looks like Delphinium requienii, we grow loads of them here and they’re stunning, the leaf gets a very glossy sheen in the sun and heat.

I am rubbish at this until I see the flower! Which is why I allow so many weeds to grow 😀

I almost certainly lose many useful self sown seedlings as I always assume they are weeds and hoe them off.

2 & 10 Ranunculaceae of some sort, Delphinium/Trollius? 4 Foxglove, 5 said Teasle to me. What about Lychnis for 1, or Centaurea? Or maybe 10 is Geranium, endressii perhaps. Good game, will there be prizes?

Agreeing with Tim and thinking: 5 is saying some form of primula but it’s also saying not some form of Primula, though I don’t know why. I’m also wondering about 7. Can’t think of anything other than Allium but they don’t take kindly to pricking out – if the single root gets damaged the plant’s had it. And you’re going to have to leave them in their pots for some time now to be sure as it’ll only be safe to unpot them to look when (if) they go dormant. OTOH you could have a problem with the pots being too shallow if you don’t repot and you’ve got big bulb varieties.

Duly noted, thanks Tim. I’ll be happy with a couple of geraniums. Wonder what they’ll be.
