June already – would it depress you hugely to know that the nights will start to draw in just a few weeks from now? Quite enough of that, I think. I have been off work this week, and have been largely mucking about in the garden, a luxury. Lots of plants, both seed sown and bought, have been planted out. So why are there so many left? Waaagh! Time for Six on Saturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything – a tool, a job completed, a flower, a leaf, wildlife, a pest, a success, anything at all! Join in, do.

Here are my Six for this week

1 – Honesty seed pods. Still very much green, rather than the papery white of my childhood memory. I caught this one with the sun behind it. If I’m honest (pun intended), I would like to dig up the plants and put something else there, but I suppose I should leave it to set seed properly.

2 – Hosta ‘June’. I bought a few hostas at the plant fair last week. Very restrained, I was, coming back as I did with fewer plants than I took. This one looks like it has been designed by a camouflage manufacturer.

3 – Rodgersia flowers. I grow these for the foliage really, but I am surprised by the flowers every year. Sort of anonymous from a distance, but close up they are quite something. I suppose I am not their target audience, something more bee-like is what they have in mind.

4 – Allium ‘nigrum’. A departure from the usual hues of purple, this one is white. More a flattish dome than a sphere. Not my favourite, but it’s a keeper.

5 – Kolkwitzia, or beauty bush. Or at least I think that’s what it is. Another borrowing from my neighbour, who has considerately allowed her shrub to flower over the fence. It has nearly finished, but not quite.

6 – Dianthus ‘Brilliancy’. It’s been a long time coming, but here they are. I sowed seed in autumn 2016, had zillions of them, potted up 80 or so I think. I planted them all out last spring, they did nothing much, then this year they are going loco, forming a dense thicket wherever they were put. They are about 25cm tall, and have begun to flower profusely in a demure shade of shocking pink. When they are all out it will be quite a sight.

Those are my Six, what are yours? If you are contemplating joining in, contemplate no longer, it’s very straightforward. Write your post, tweet, facebook or instagram thing, then stick a link to it below in the comments. If you also give a link back to this blog in your post that would be fab. You can read more details in the brief participant guide.

Have a fantastic June weekend, not forgetting to check back in as more links get added.

I’ll be back next weekend with another Six on Saturday.
