The garden is continuing to emerge from hibernation. While it can be gloomy and variable weather-wise, I do like this time of year for the promise it holds. On a weekday evening, I have been known to inspect the estate for new growth by torchlight. This does often result in trampled snowdrops – whose idea was it to plant them in the lawn? time for Six on Saturday – Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything – a flower, bulb action, a job to do, a job completed, a pest, anything at all. Join in!

Here are my Six for this week.

1 – Verbena hastata ‘pink spires’. Just poking through, this new growth is the first sign of anything happening in these plants which were shipped to me whilst dormant back in November. They grow to about 1.2m, 4 feet so are good for middle to back of border. I bought these as I was getting fed up with cousin verbena bananarama never seeding about in my garden. In any case, I think the flowers on this will be more noteworthy. I have 10 of these (more you spend, more you save!), so need to start thinking about where I’m going to put them.

2 – Crocus, basic purple. I planted these back in late October, maybe November. All went in pots on the patio. My first ever crocus flower is on its way out. Totes emosh.

3 – Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘purpurea’. It’s a bit of a mess. I am sorely tempted to cut it right back. What is the right thing to do? Anyone?

4 – Narcissus ‘Decoy’. Just emerging, these are a new one for me this year. They are an unsual daff, with white petals and a red-orange trumpet. It’s a daffodil Jim, but not as we know it. They won’t flower till the back end of March, maybe even early April, so I have to be patient.

5 – Heuchera, unknown. In my wholesale binge back in the autumn, I bought 5 “mixed” heuchera. I hoped to get some of the more unusual colouring. This one looks like it will have lime coloured leaves.

6 – Snowman – involuntary rhinoplasty. His extreme weight-loss programme went too far.

I hope you get some gardening done, it looks like it will be pretty wet and windy here, at least today. Don’t forget to check back in as more links are added during the day.

I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
