I am on my hols, so will be brief. Here in Scotland the weather has been “changeable” at best. Yesterday was filthy, windy and very wet, but there have been glimpses of sunshine, including the day we spent at Stirling Castle. Among the kilts and suits of armour there is quite a nice herbaceous border from which 5 of my 6 come this week.
Six on Saturday, you know the drill.
Here are my Six for this week.
1. Ligularia. Jealous of this, I have tried to grow it but it is just a slug banquet in my garden.
2. Sweet William?
3. Zinnia, I think.
4. California poppy, I think…
5. A rose.
6. Extreme gardening. In Edinburgh this time, in Prince’s Street park there is a large (working) floral clock. When we passed the gardener was tending it, precariously balanced almost horizontally on a ladder. I think he was dead heading.

Having been born and brought up in Edinburgh, Jon, I was especially thrilled to see your last picture of the floral clock, as all my recent visits have been out-of-season when it isn’t planted up. Some people will dismiss Scotland as being a place where it always rains and will never go again, but as someone pointed out it has been wet and windy virtually everywhere in the UK today! Re the reblogging thing going on – it is rather weird, but not uncommon for sites to simply reblog other blogs – strange that this particularly site features mostly YOUR posts! I do see that you have the reblog button on your posts, you can remove that by going into the settings / sharing and selecting the option to not show the reblog button on posts (I use WP admin to access settings). This might help.

I’ve very fond memories of visiting Scotland when our son was visiting there, and we did have one glorious sunny day! Ligularia is a new one for me and I can see why you’d want it. It would never be happy in my garden.

Definitely Sweet William, I still have some in flower! But I think Jim is right about the ‘Zinnia’ – at first I thought it could be one of the double asters I saw recently, but I believe it is Echinacea purpurea ‘Razzmatazz – almost like a chrysanthemum! Very pretty. Enjoy the rest of your hols – weather permitting. Scotland is a lovely country whatever the weather.

Hope the weather picks up for your hols. It’s pretty dismal here in south Wales too – pelting down, blowing a gale, muggy. My asthma doesn’t like it one bit. We move house tomorrow, so I’ll be back with pics of the new place as soon as we’re sorted out.

What a week to be up in Scotland – it’s not always like this I promise! I think we have had more rain this week than the whole of 2019 so far. I have been struggling to think of what to incorporate into the front garden as a new feature this year, now I have decided – an enormous floral clock! Hope you have a drier week and enjoy the rest of your holiday. Here are my decidedly soggy six. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s sunnier gardens this weekend…

Might the Zinnia be one of the snazzy Echinacea forms, like ‘Razzamatazz’? What do I know, I’ve never grown Zinnias or Echinacea. It’s good that carpet bedding survives, it’s quite an art form. https://wp.me/p6bCCa-1WS

Like others, I love Princes St gardens for strolling or sitting. Those zinnias are something special. I hope you stole a cutting or 2 to share w/your SoS gang. Actually, I was hoping to have the rare, nay unique, opportunity to correct my #1 son-in-law’s spelling but Sedums…….corrected very subtly, then Thistles….was more direct! Maybe next year? Anyway, I hope you are managing to enjoy your holiday, in spite of the weather. Here are my Six-on-Saturday.

Here are mine, which are all of the same native species, coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia. It is as common here as the California poppy used to be.
Of those in your picture are California poppy too. It is one of those odd trendy varieties that is not uniform bright orange like California poppy should be. It is our state flower! It still grows wild here, but unfortunately, is easily crowded out by exotic. Also, it gets neglected by pollinators who are visiting more of the exotic flowers. This butterfly gardening fad is not helping.
I do not know what to make of the zinnia. I can neither confirm nor deny its identity.

How much was your pound worth at Sterling Castle? 😇. Princes Street Gardens is an oasis of calm in the city centre. Thankfully the my have always kept the clock. Not bad for an old Loch.
