I very nearly forgot it was Friday yesterday, the days merging as they do when you’re off work, so you were nearly without a host this week. I have been off since close of play Tuesday and have spent nearly all the time since in the garden. I’ve been a busy boy, claiming a bit more lawn for higher purpose, sowing, pricking out, potting on, seeking compost perfection, taming the virginia creeper, tying in climbers, mowing, clipping, shredding, even a bit of shed tidying. I’m glad of a sit down to write this, actually. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything – a flower, a tool, a job completed, a design, a new plant, spring bulbs, anything at all. Join in!

Here are my Six for this week.

1 – Angelica gigas, or possibly a. archangelica.  I have both and can’t remember which I planted where. Gigas is purple, archangelica is white. Either way, this one is giving birth to a flower head.

2 – Clematis Montana ‘Warwickshire Rose’.  Covered with flowers like these, it’s good value for the brief flowering period.

3 – Perennial cornflower.  A wacky, bed-hair kind of flower. My lone plant is gradually bulking out, I should have plenty of flowers this year.

4 – Gill’s ginger.  Gill Heavens, of this parish, sent me seeds last year. I nursed just three through to seedling stage. They have spent most of the last year a scant cm or two tall, rather underwhelmed at life. I potted them on, rather more in hope than expectation. With fresh compost and warmer days, possibly helped by me accidentally setting the heated bench to warp factor 9 (I had nudged the thermostat out of the sand so the coils were trying to heat the universe), they are showing something akin to willing.

5 – Bergenia ‘born survivor’.  It’s not really called that, but it should be.  This poor plant routinely gets trampled as it is emerging.  It happens to be in front of the biggest climbing rose which needs a certain amount of wrangling during early Spring, cue my Size 12s.  It is gamely flowering, although of the leaves there is no sign.

6 – Narcissus ‘Pipit’.  It is listed as lemon yellow, fading to creamy white.  I seem to have caught them in the act of fading.

Those are my Six, what are yours?  If you’d like to have a crack, just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours, that would be marvellous. For more details you can have a read of this here participant guide.

For a bank holiday weekend, the weather looks half decent here, so I imagine I will spend a goodly portion of it in the garden, pleased with the illusion of control I am conjuring for myself. I can almost hear the garden whispering, “just you wait till May, sunshine, you’ll get yours”.

Stay safe, I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
