The clematis are doing very well this year, even the laggards, the reluctant growers, are much improved.
1. C. Voluceau (I think…)
2. C. Prince Charles, probably.
3. C. Rebecca, probably.
4. C. Comtesse du bouchard, probably.
5. C. Warsaw Nike, maybe.
6. C. The President, definitely.
I still have plenty of other clematis yet to flower, you can be sure they will feature here at some point.
Apologies for the brevity this morning. Normal service will be resumed next week. Assuming I can remember which day of the week it is!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, stay safe.
I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
Your clematis are great. Mine look terrible this year. Don’t know why….taking a gap year? Or just discombobulated like the rest of us.

Those clematis flowers look very attractive. They’re something we’ve never tried to grow, though we’ve plenty of honeysuckles and other climbers.
Here’s my six for this week – I’ve been doing more work in the garden, and haven’t spent enough time relaxing in it …

definitely worth growing if you have a bit of spare vertical space. best to buy a well established plant from a specialist grower, they can take a few years to get going if bought very small.

Lovely clematis. Supposed to grow in my zone, but the one and only I tried died. I think it was me, I saw an amazing one growing not far from my house.

they can be tricky to get right planting wise. close enough to the wall/fence, but not too close, enough sun but not too much. i’m finding they are thirsty plants, doing much better this year perhaps because i am around to give them a good soak twice a week.

Can be a bit hit and miss. Best to buy good matureish plants from specialist. The ones you can buy from b&q, say, are usually too small, need growing on in pots for a couple of years before planting out.

‘Brevity is the soul of wit’ sayeth the bard, it’s a discipline I could learn from. I planted two clematis during the winter, neither is doing much. I have a ‘President Definitely’ flowering out of reach of the camera but that’s all. It’s out of reach of the slugs too will be the explanation. Perhaps I’ll get a fabulous summer display from mine. In the meantime you get this lot: https://wp.me/p6bCCa-2h3

Its a bit of a cheat to take pictures of individual flowers like this. Few of the plants are yet grown to the point where they are covering a fence. A few do, but most are a few feet high. It’s a work in progress. The next border patrol post should give you a sense of where they’ve got to.

Today’s Propagator blog is bought to you by Oasis album Definitely Maybe. I struggled to find time yesterday in writing this weeks SOS as I got caught up with drinking beer and watching the VE Day celebrations on the telly. I finished this morning. I have a question I think I am going to have a problem with some of my Clematis as the trellis is to short and of course the shoots are shooting up in the sky and the leaves are burning off. Brevity is actually suggested in the Six on Saturday guidelines. I have been limiting mine to about 300 words.
I finally got into the landscapes today. I will show some rhododendrons next weed from this last week. I am pleased that so many were still blooming. For now, it is just a few of the roses. There are more in other landscapes, but I did not get pictures of them. Perhaps I will later.

When I was a child there were only 3 (later 4) TV channels, 2 of which were BBC, the others commercial broadcasters. When there was no programme being broadcast, the BBC used to show that picture, it was to help people tune their TV well, to get a sharp picture. It was called the “test card”. Very cheesy music was played at the same time, there are people that still collect the music.
Yes i was busy yesterday with the irrigation pipework. It was also my daughter’s birthday so some time was spent on that.

That was my idea. I didn’t understand the link between the test card and the pretty girl.
We also had this image but no music ( and also 3 channels then 6 when I was 10)

I’ll reply for The Prop, the headed photo is the Test Card from the 1960 and 1970’s, maybe even later. They put it on the screen when there was a gap between programmes, or if something went wrong. There are loads on YouTube, apparently there is a cult following. Great BBC voice on this one, if it works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ncmg3bxtTB0
