Six on Saturday then. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything – a flower, wildlife, a feature, a favourite tool, a job to do, anything at all. Join in!

Here are my Six for this week…

1 – Verbena bananarama – these don’t seem to seed about for me, so I’ve grown some from cuttings and some from bought seed. I now have several wafting about the front garden.

2 – Helenium ‘Sahins Early Flowerer’. Their shorter cousins featured last week but these fellas are worthy of mention this week. I bought one plant last year which clumped up nicely was in the wrong place. I dug it up to move it but then couldn’t resist dividing it into 18 little plants. Not a bad return on my £2.50 plant fair purchase. I have them dotted about in groups in a few places now. I prefer them to the helenium autumnale as the colouring is much nicer. Plus of course they flower earlier, clue’s in the name.

3 – Allium sphaercephalon, drumstick allium. I think I bought 100 of these three or four years ago, planted in groups of 10-15. They return very reliably and are getting more robust with each passing year. I should add some more, perhaps.

4 – Cosmos ‘Apricot Lemonade’. I may have prematurely maligned this plant. Featured here just a couple of weeks ago, I thought then that it was a bit “meh”. I am seeing more and more flowers that look like this, much more akin to the seed catalogue photo that compelled me to order it in the first place. Think I’m falling back in love with it just a little bit.

5 – Cosmos, white one. I sowed several batches of cosmos seed this year, but none were supposed to be white, far as I can recall. Still, I am mainly pleased to have got several cosmos plants through to being garden worthy this year. I often lost most to neglect, slugs, blackfly or some other calamity, and that’s before planting them out.

6 – Irrigation success. You may remember me mentioning getting started on fitting an irrigation system in the garden. I’ll probably write a full post on it at some stage, but suffice to say I am slowly getting there. There are 7 zones in the garden now, each with it’s own tap like this one. I have 2 of the 7 zones set up properly and running on a schedule. This one runs for 15 minutes every 2 days and covers the front garden, including the big rose containers. The remaining 5 have been delayed for want of missing parts. These finally showed up yesterday so I shall be getting another zone or two sorted out this weekend.

Those are my Six for this week, what are yours? If you’d like to join the crew, just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be marvellous. For more deets you can swot up here.

After what seems like months of iffy weather, the forecast is set fair for the forseeable, so I anticipate much of the weekend will be spent in the garden. Mind you, that was true when the weather was iffy! Have a great weekend, don’t forget to check in later as more links get added during the day.

Stay safe, I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
