Are we nearly there yet? How many more corners till 2021? This year has felt like the most interminable car journey ever. On the plus side, the shortest day is this coming Monday, which means it’s downhill till Summer! Still no gardening to speak of here, I’m spending my spare time running and snoozing-after-running. If it is sunny as forecast on Sunday I might be persuaded to get my arse into gear and do a bit of weeding or pesky bulb planting. After I’ve done my run. And had a kip on the sofa.
Anyhow, time for Six(ish) on Saturday. Six(ish) things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, and at this time of year it needs to be! You decide. Join in!
Here are my Six(ish) for this week…
1 – Agastache seed heads.
2 – Daffodils, still very much above ground. I’m soooo over bulb planting for this year, but I still need to get these interred before they rot or something. I have ‘peach cobbler’, ‘martinette’, ‘thalia’ and ‘tete-a-tete’. I just need a dryish day and some willpower.
3 – Trowel, lost and found. I haven’t seen this for months, it finally turned up in my soggiest border, revealed when I cleared assorted plant detritus the other day. Glad to have it back. I actually have 2 trowels, but I’ve no idea where the other one is either, MIA in similar fashion I expect.
4 – Allium, poking above compost. I planted all the alliums in 7cm pots for now, I’ll move them to the ground in February or March.
5 – Geranium mess. It would be the work of moments to clear this up, just need to do it. Eventually.
6 – Um…I forgot to take a 6th photo. What is the world coming to?!
Those are my Six(ish), what are yours? If you’d like to have a go, just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be splendid. For more details you can read the brief guide here.
Have a super weekend, don’t forget to check back later as more links get added during the day.
Stay safe, I’ll be back next weekend for another #SixOnSaturday.
Hi, this is my first attempt at building a personal web site, but so chuffed I got here at all.

Here’s a late addition, with six photos although not Saturday, and not all plants (or lost tools!) More like lost garden under the snow. I chuckle thinking about you folks still planning to plant bulbs. Not in my climate! https://spruceknobgarden.wordpress.com/2020/12/20/december-gardening-indoors/

Thanks for posting this – somehow losing and finding trowels seems so season-appropriate. Mine are bright orange and somehow they still go missing.
I’m either jealous or intimidated by all these bulbs – pondering next year. And here are my Six: http://intrepidephemera.com/2020/12/19/tomato-as-perennial-and-other-mysteries/

I also have bulbs to plant and have decided, as it is so wet, to put them in pots ready to plant out in spring – this is the easy option I know! Here are my six:

And I thought it looked like MY lost trowel! Fortunately, I do have three more, as the offending item seems to have gone from the face of the earth, living it up with a pair of secateurs I hoped to find at the bottom of the compost heap, but haven’t. And bulb planting is probably my least favourite gardening task too! Thanks for hosting Jon, much appreciated. Mine are here: https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2020/12/19/six-on-saturday-scraping-the-barrel/

A great meme – such a good idea. The lost trowels – there is definitely a place where they go even when I buy them with bright pink handles. A bit late to the party but my six can be seen here https://plots11and24.edublogs.org/2020/12/19/six-on-saturday-19-12-20/

Are you sure that’s YOUR trowel? Only it looks very like my missing trowel… right down to the little leather loop!🤔

Great to see your choice for #SOS, sorting out my six has become the highlight of my week! Lots of people have identified with losing tools and the annoyance of spending time looking for them. Mary Keen who used to garden at the Old Rectory in Duntisbourne Rous used to have several ‘stations’ around the garden where she would have gloves, secateurs and a trowel which I thought was a great idea. My six are here: http://kasmaty.blogspot.com/2020/12/sixonsaturday-new-life-bursting-forth.html Merry Christmas everyone.

Does bulb planting ever end? I planted some more today but I’m sure I wrote that I’d virtually finished weeks ago. I’ve stopped reading emails from well known (and any other) plant producers so that I don’t succumb to temptation. It won’t last long.
Wishing all Sixers a very Happy Christmas. I can’t believe the next Six will be Boxing Day.

I couldn’t cope with only two trowels, I have double that ‘cos I am always leaving them in the borders. On Thursday I spent half an hour searching for one that I’d managed to throw in the compost covered in mud (the ground in so wet and sticky here). I think that we all need to be able to turn a corner on 2020/covid/brexit etc now. We’ll be back gardening with enthusiasm, inspired by each other. Meanwhile I offer you six of someone else’s work: https://wp.me/pM8Y1-85a

I have planted all my Spring flowering bulbs though 🙂 Lost count how many planted this season!
It’s tough this time of year to get motivated in the garden, especially when wet.

I’m also taking a break from the garden, due to the 14″ of snow and ice on top of it! I’m fine with that. Winter is when we re charge our batteries. The daffodils will either get planted or not. Have a great Christmas! Oh here’s my link:

Good afternoon. A bit late, but I did go for a rather short run 🏃♂️ – in distance – but took a bit longer than it used to. Also, horror of horrors, the washing machine wasn’t spinning! 😱😥 Looking at the troubleshooting advice in the brochure, I checked and found the spin dial was slightly out…….it works now. 😁🙃 Enough digressing, I’m pleased to see Mr P has his mojo back and is looking forward to Christmas even though his in-laws won’t be there. 🤔

The only thing that works for me when I lose tools is to buy a new one. The old one always turns up within days. New tape measure this morning, I hope to get the old one back for christmas. Good plan to delay bulb planting to extend the flowering season. Here’s my belated effort: https://wp.me/p6bCCa-2Ef

I found a cheaper method. Added a trowel to my Xmas list. Immediately found the old one. Took it off the Xmas list. Try it!

The Agastache seed heads are pretty in their own way. Good luck with the bulb planting…. Nearly there! You might misplace trowels, but I’m well known for tossing out secateurs with the cuttings! Heaven knows how many I have lost over the years. The trick is to have more than you need! I have at least 4 in my gardening box, and so far so good, I have not misplaced any recently.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas!

Can’t you get your family planting bulbs? Then next year they will 1. Make sure you don’t buy so many, or 2. Decide it is a wonderful family activity or 3. decide they will not make the same mistake and buy bulbs for their gardens when they catch the gardening bug, or 4. Ask you if you would like help much earlier next year. Anyway, enjoy Christmas…life is a theatre, or maybe our posts each week are: https://noellemace.blogspot.com/2020/12/six-on-saturday-19-december-2020.html

The weather certainly has been against any gardening this past week and nothing at all was done here. My running days are well over, a pastime I never enjoyed at any rate and I rarely ran – except to chase young children when necessary. We are pretty up to date with our gardening here with a short list of jobs to be done – one hydrangea to be moved, another to be dug up and dumped and a short length of pathway to be laid out – stone edge and bark infill, so a quick and easy job. Otherwise, I have one small tree to remove and a little lopping of large branches on a few trees; all in all a day’s work, if weather allowed.
Here is my look-back at this previous week in the garden and as it is the last before Christmas, may I wish everybody a very happy Christmas. Best wishes to all, good health and happiness.

I should just get out and do some weeding or something. I finish work early next week so if there’s a couple of nice days I have half a chance of getting caught up.

I should add: lost trowels, forks, secateurs are generally found in the compost heap here. I now pile up all material from the garden until I have enough for a good shredding session and this reveals the lost items. Previously, before my shredding days, I have often found them a year later when digging out the heap.

I’ve decided bulb planting is my least favourite gardening job – worse than chopping back the jasmine. I’ve vowed not to get so many next year (though I may need reminding of this next autumn). What is it with trowels? They always go awol. My son has bought me a new one for Christmas. I know this as I have bought and wrapped it and he has yet to pay me back.
If it’s any consolation I have oodles of slimy perennials to clear and I have achieved very little in the garden. I don’t run though – the fastest my body goes is a brisk walk.
Thanks again for being there for us – are you here on Boxing Day or is there a week off? Happy Christmas Jonathan.
