Well well, come Monday it will be meteorological spring up here in the Northern Hemisphere. There are those that will argue that it doesn’t start till the vernal equinox on 20th March. But I say pah, let’s have it ASAP. While you are reading this I will be out in the chilly winter sunshine, plodding my way through 40km of the finest trails that Berkshire and Oxfordshire have to offer. In the meantime you can get on with Six on Saturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, you decide. Join in!
Here are my Six for this week.
1 – Crocus, not shy. Over the last few years I have planted several hundred crocus bulbs. I should plant several hundred more. They have mainly been closed up this week but the sun is fully out and so they have come out to play.
2 – Snowdrops, oodles of ’em. Last week I bemoaned my very sparce collection of one or two very ordinary snowdrops. That is clearly a situation that the Six on Saturday Massive found unacceptable. Earlier this week I received not one but two parcels containing clumps of snowdrops. For now I have potted them up in their clumps to bide their time until I get around to planting them out. Based on recent evidence, that could be a while! Thanks so much to Noelle and Hortus Baileyana for taking pity on me, much appreciated!

3 – Hardy Plant Society seeds. My slightly disappointing haul from the HPS this year. I missed the opening of the scheme so will have been down the pecking order when the orders were picked. It is also later to arrive than usual, no doubt a side effect of trying to manage this complex operation under Covid-secure conditions. Still, I usually have way too many plants to grow, so this is all for my own good. I suppose…

4 – Narcissus ‘Téte-a-téte’. I bought a load more of these last year, but this lot is a throwback to a prior year’s planting. They are rather jolly, and as the name suggests, come in pairs, so more flowers. The first few are out, plenty more where they came from.

5 – Camelia ‘Nuccio’s Pearl’. This is the most open of the buds on this young shrub. Exciting.

6 – No idea. Since taking this photo earlier today, I’ve forgotten which plant this is. I think it is a persicaria, either ‘red dragon’ or ‘purple dragon’ or possibly even a begonia, although I don’t think so. Anyway, the point is that new growth is emerging. Hurrah.

Those are my Six, what are yours? If you’d like to join in, just publish your post and pop the link in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be triffic. For more details you can read the brief participant guide.
Have a lovely weekend in the garden, don’t forget to pop back later as more links get added during the day.
I’ll be back next weekend for another #SixOnSaturday.
So many signs of spring. The new growth, whatever its true identity, is a lovely pink color. I always appreciate how detailed the tiny emergent leaves can be. Delightful that others have reached out to address the want of needed snowdrops. I agree that there can never be enough crocuses and heartily support your plans to further multiply their number.

Sigh. Definitely not spring where I am. (But I am doing a lot of skiing instead of gardening so can’t complain too much.) https://spruceknobgarden.wordpress.com/2021/02/27/queued-up-for-seeds/

Lovely photos this week, and it looks like we are about at the same spot in spring, enjoying Crocus, early daffies and budding Camellias. Crocuses have been the stars of the garden this week in the sunshine, haven’t they? Like you, I could do with double the number I have though. I also had an HPS seed packet pop through my door this morning. I haven’t quite got my head round my selection yet … now I am looking up how to to grow them and I seem to have chosen a lot of poisonous stuff!!!
Here are my six, including crocuses: https://wp.me/pM8Y1-89r
PS 40km sounds a long way, nice weather for it though.

Crocus and ‘Tête-à-tête’ from me too! I had to smile at your unidentified signs of new growth – certainly looks like persicaria. I have begun digging couch grass out of my streamside border today and have several unidentifiable clumps to deal with (mostly riddled with couch grass of course!)! They are not included in my Six which are here: https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2021/02/27/six-saturday-smiles/

Your téte-a-téte and crocus are gorgeous! It’s so nice to see color after a long, cold winter. I also have color, just not flowers. https://wp.me/p4Y6ke-2TO

Thank you for the Crocus photos, it is wonderful to revisit bulbs of my past gardening life. Packages of Snowdrops! Thanks for hosting this meme coming from some fans..here is my Floridian fun for this week https://theshrubqueen.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-dinner-plans/

Lucky you, receiving plants in the mail!!!!!!! And snowdrops to boot! What a lovely surprise! When you talk about your crocus (hundreds of them) and I have a few here and a few there……I think that may be the problem I don’t have enough of them to show them off! And I think the squirrels get them or the moles……..But I do have enough to put a smile on my face when I spot one! Same way with daffs, one year there, next year gone….. Today I am showing some photos of some of the gardens in St Ives, that were put on display in an impromptu secret garden tour, that I just happened to stumble upon on the right day at the right time! See you next week! https://thecadyluckleedy.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-the-secret-gardens-of-st-ives/

My return to the fold (if you’ll have me) consists mainly of crocuses and irises. Funny how things change from one week to the next. This sunny weather is a joy and helps the flowers of course, but I am a vernal equinox person – when the day equals the night then let spring begin! As for camellias, I visited a garden on Thursday which was brimming full of them in all their colours, I cannot compete with that and my only camellia is white which seems to suffer the most from the cold and the wet. Hope you had a good run in the sun!

I’m so pleased to hear that you have more snowdrops now. They really are worth it. Even if they take a year or two to settle in, what lovely people SOSers are! . My Six are part frost damage part spring flowers. https://n20gardener.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-february-round-up/ Have a great weekend.

Love your crocus, I was tempted to show nothing but on my Six this week but other things were eager to be included. He is my Six I https://hurtledto60.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-27-02-2021-2/ written earlier this morning but to my panic it disappeared. Shouldn’t have been switching between editors, fortunately I found it, if I hadn’t I wasn’t going to don’t all over again🤷♀️. Happy weekend.

Crocuses are the ‘it’ people at this party for sure, a few of mine are also joining in. I got my ‘order’ for seed in early with Jim, and having a very small garden, gave HPS a miss. It still won’t mean I shan’t have a close shufty up to peer at the ones you have chosen. Here are my six: https://noellemace.blogspot.com/2021/02/six-on-saturday-27-february-2021.html

That’s a lot of running. Good luck! Crocus feature in my Six this week as I’ve focussed on pots. Over the last couple of days I’ve been able to empty the bed that has been invaded by a neighbours bindweed and brambles and dig it over. Today will be spent replanting it.

Love the crocuses, they have been beautiful this year. My persicaria aren’t budding at all, I hope they didn’t die in the big freeze. I have been obsessed by frogs in my pond this week: http://kasmaty.blogspot.com/2021/02/sixonsaturday-frogs-provide.html

Enforced galanthophilism, who knew that could happen. Mine have been pathetic for flowers this year, in contrast to the crocus, which have been fabulous. Crocus is/are the way to go. I didn’t do a HPS seed order and on the whole I’m quite glad I didn’t, given I’m already out of space and I’ve barely started sowing. Here’s my six: https://wp.me/p6bCCa-2JW

It’s so nice to see friendships and plant sharing happening via SoS through this wonderful (and growing) group of gardeners. Your crocuses must look stunning en masse.
Does one say enjoy the run? I hope it is successful, anyway. Here is my six: http://janesmudgeegarden.com/seeds-bulbs-and-woodland-distant-lover-feb-27-2021/

Good morning. I hope you enjoyed your run. Those crocuses are beautiful and you have plenty of spring colour this week, in case we had any doubts about the season. I forgot to finish my post wishing everyone a good weekend so I’ve done that now.

Yay – all those lovely snowdrops. That is so kind of Noelle and Hortus to send you some. Shout if you need some more – or maybe a special one to get that galanthophilia well and truly germinating?!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you grow from those little seed packets – I’m sure there’ll be some wonderful things there.
I’m going for a it with the crocuses this week, celebrating the fact that like you, and me, they’ve decided it is spring. I’ve got a couple of little stunners in there including two species varieties with superb markings.

Spring is normally earlier here than it is in other regions. It is a bit slow this year. It is rather nice that some of the spring flowers are still blooming. Actually, the daphne is still blooming, . . . which is sort of weird.
Nuccio’s Pearl certainly seems to be popular wherever camellias are grown. We grew quite a few of them, but others were more popular. Goodness, I have not purchased stock plants in MANY years. Back then, Mr. Nuccio delivered the camellias to us himself, so that he could stay for a few days. This is about 350 miles from Altadena, VERY far beyond their delivery range. He rented a moving truck to avoid driving their own delivery truck.

As I said yesterday in a tweet, crocuses are really spring and February flowers: they are showing all their beauty right now with the beautiful sunny days. ( a bit chilly this morning though) https://fredgardenerblog.wordpress.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-27-02-21/

I also say ‘pah’ to a 20 March spring. Those crocuses are stunners, particularly the stripy one https://onemanandhisgardentrowel.wordpress.com/2021/02/27/six-on-saturday-27-february-2021/

So nice to receive those snowdrops from other bloggers, that’s a lovely example of the camaraderie of Six on Saturday. The crocus are perfect in the sunshine, and tete a tete is one of my favourites too. Hurrah for spring, yes I agree it starts on 1 March!

It seems years since I received seeds from the Hardy Plant Society. As I was never in a position to attend any of their events – likewise with the AGS – I allowed my membership to lapse. I miss the seed exchange which always brought interesting plants to the garden and growing them was always very interesting. Now, I am on the gallop – well, on the walk really – as I am heading out for an early walk. I’ll leave my reading until I return.
I hope all are keeping well, safe, healthy and sound. Best wishes.

I love the purple and white crocus, particularly the stripy one. Like you I’ve come to the conclusion that the garden could take many many more.
That seed selection should keep you busy sowing for a while. Is there a particular favourite you managed to get hold of?

Tete-a-tete is one of my favourites, and now that it has arrived before Monday, it’s definitely Spring.
You’ve got a decent selection of seeds! I think my favourite there would be the Penstemon.
I’ve also got seeds aplenty, and (mostly) spring-like weather this week.
