The tulips are on the verge of making an appearance and they will steal the limelight from the less showy daffodils, so I’m going to dedicate this edition of Six on Saturday to the daffodils still doing their thang in my garden. Six on Saturday then, Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, you decide. Join in!
Here are my Six for this week.
1 – Narcissus jonquilla ‘Martinette’. New to me this year, these live in a planter by the front door. I could have crammed the same number again in I think, they are a little sparse for my likeing. Still, they are pretty and have a fabulous fragrance, perfect for by the front door. There are several blooms per stem, an added bonus.

2 – Narcissus ‘Thalia’. A very delicate plain white. I have added more for this spring after enjoying a small group of them last year.

3 – Narcissus ‘peach cobbler’. New to me this year, I admired this in a fellow SoSer’s garden last year and wanted to get some myself. A double, they allegedly have a fragrance too, but I can’t say I’ve noticed.

4 – Narcissus ‘Pipit’. This is an unusual variety, fading over time to a pale yellow, almost white, often with a stripy effect. Sadly it has not been a long lasting bulb for me, I think I only have one flowering stem left per clump, from an original 25 planted just 3 years ago.

5 – Narcissus ‘Beauvalon’. In their second year, I believe they have increased in number with no intervention from me. Rather striking en masse, I have a big (and apparently growing) clump on the verge at the front, greeting anyone foolish enough to park in my spot outside the house.

6 – Narcissis ‘Barret Browning’. Also in their second year, I rather like the contrasting flattish trumpet (cup).

Those are my six, what are yours? If you’d like to have a go, just publish your post and pop a link to it here in the comments. If you also mention my blog in yours, that would be tip top. For more details you can read the brief participant guide.
I hope you have a splendid long weekend (for those of you in the UK) and that you get some serious gardening in. I think yesterday might have been the best of the weather. Oh well. Don’t forget to check back later as more links get added during the day.
I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
Happy Easter, Jon.

I love seeing your choices and never look until I’ve chosen mine and written the blog post. Thalia stands out as an absolute high class daffodil for me, and I like the delicate Beauvalon. Interesting how new plantings are never dense enough. I haven’t chosen and daffodils this week, although they are still looking very good. It is always intriguing to see your garden growing at the same pace as ours. And it seems are taste in daffodils is much the same, too. I adore N. ‘Thalia’ and never grow enough. We also have N. ‘Pippit.’ I love your N. ‘Peach Cobbler’. I’ve not seen that in our catalogs over here, but I have several that are in the double form. Sadly, they are they first to fall over in the wind and rain that inevitable come once they bloom. Daffodils always make me smile, and you have a beautiful collection. This week I’m writing about our ferns that have just begun to emerge this past week. Thanks, as always, for hosting: https://woodlandgnome.wordpress.com/2021/04/03/six-on-saturday-unfurling-ferns/

That’s a pretty darn nice variety of Narcissus! I wonder what the a bouquet of all of them would smell like. Good luck to all the new flowers, and I hope they hang around for a nicely long time!
Looking forward to your next Six on Saturday.

Still bright and beautiful in Cornwall, if a little chilly. I love daffodils and narcissi and they are such rewarding bulbs, coming back each year with long-lasting flowers. My smaller ones are mostly over, but I have Martinette in pots and they are lovely (Falconet are very similar), Thalia, in a pot and a raised bed, cope better with the wind in the ground. And for a scented one go for Winston Churchill – it is gorgeous – creamy-white, double flowers, which are each flecked with orange and very weather resistant too. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend Jon!

Those Martinette’s are quite something but I love the full range. I’ve never grown daffodils and the only ones we get as cut flowers are the ordinary all-yellow numbers with a prominent trumpet. Which are lovely, but which make the others that you’re growing here look almost like they’re not daffodils…
Anyway, for a more pelargonium and succulent-focused #Six, here is a southern hemisphere view: https://onewordhere.blogspot.com/2021/04/six-on-saturday-2021-04-03-southern.html

I love the different daffs. I try to plant one or two new varieties each year as well – ‘Bravoure’ and ‘Delibes’ last fall. The leaves are just a few inches out of the ground so far… A lot of Sixers seem to have ‘Thalia’ – perhaps this is the year for me as well…

Such a cheerful post but it saddens me too, only because my daffs are so disappointing this year, the ones in pots all got badly scorched by the freeze. Oh well, at least I can enjoy yours from afar. Happy Easter everyone, hope the Easter bunny is kind to you:

I’ve loved your daff special – you’re growing so many varieties. I do like the colour of the Thalia but they’re a bit bashful and downturned. So whilst they’re deservedly popular, the bright ones that lift their trumpets to announce themselves probably edge it for me.
I hope your training continues well – and apologies I thought you’d already done your big run!
Here are my six – all bulbs but no daffs. Maybe I’ll feature some next week if they’re still going…

I rather like the contrast of Barett. Stands out well. I’ve got a few this week and then it’s probably going to be onto the tulips for a few weeks. It’s all moving fast now.
This weeks six has been written with the new block editor so no idea what will show. But there was six beautiful pics, but whether anyone can actually see them I don’t know.

I changed my mind about the doubles again when I saw Graeme’s Tahiti daff. That looks amazing with its ruffles and a bit of contrasting colour. I’m so easily swayed when it comes to pretty flowers!

Beau is the star of my Six. People asked about him last week. I got five pictures of flowering cherry too, just because this ‘should’ be at least a bit horticulturally oriented. These are only about half of the flowering cherries here, although some of them are too similar to these to bother getting more pictures of.
It must be fun to try new and unusual daffodils and narcissus. My favorites are still ‘King Alfred’ daffodil and paperwhite narcissus. I have difficulty trying anything any different or more interesting than ‘Mount Hood’ narcissus. (I happen to like it because it is white, but also similar in form to ‘King Alfred’.) The few odd cultivars at work were added by someone else. Yours certainly are tempting though. Those with orange are intriguing, and I sort of like ‘Barret Browning’.
