It has been a rather cool and mainly grey, damp sort of week here. Everything is growing like crazy though, including the weeds, and yes, the slugs. I’m hoping for a bit more sunshine in the weeks ahead, I have plenty of things I need to move out of the greenhouse so I can move plenty of other things into it, the chilli plants being chief among them. While we wait for the sun to return, time for Six on Saturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, you decide. Join in!

Here are my Six for this week.

1 – Aquilegia. I can’t remember now if I grew this from seed, or if it grew itself. The former, I think. Certainly I remember planting it by the fence. It seems very happy in that spot, nigh on three feet tall and oodles of flowers.

2 – Epimedium. I am yet to experience flowers from this plant, bought from a plant fair two or three years back. It lives in full shade, underneath a shrub. The flowers of this are supposedly yellow so I may not appreciate them anyway. I’ll make do with the fresh leaves which are rather lovely. Epimedium also has a lovely array of common names, my favourite of which is horny goat plant. Naughty goat.

3 – Wisteria floribunda. This plant is rapidly taking over. I think it will eventually consume the trellis that it grows up, the trunk is already on the verge of crushing sections of it. It’s a slow motion process but relentless nonetheless. For a few weeks in May, though, I forgive the bid for world domination. I did lose a few buds to the hard frosts we had in April, but happily most are rapidly unfurling into the long open racemes for which the floribunda is known.

4 – Geum ‘Flames of Passion’. Last year I moved this plant from further back in the border where it was being swamped a bit. This seems to have worked as this rather low growing plant is rewarding me with a full set of flowers, albeit rather droopy in character.

5 – Acer ‘Orange Dream’. I have two of these in pots either side of the patio steps. I bought them half price last year then spent more than double that amount on the pots and compost to fill them. Many trees would be very happy to have this foliage in the autumn. As the name suggests, ‘Orange Dream’ has that colouring from the start. They are still fairly small, a couple of feet high, but I’m hoping they will eventually fill out the pots nicely.

6 – Abutilon x ‘Suntense’. Remember the buds from last week? Several, but by no means all, are now out. They are are a rather nice shade of pale lilac. I’m impatient to see how this develops over the next few years. A. ‘Suntense’ can get quite large, up to 6m if let be, and allegedly flowers its socks off when mature.

Those are my Six, what are yours? If you’d like to join in just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be triffic. For more details you can read the brief participant guide.

I trust you’ll have a productive weekend in the garden, as usual I have a list of things to do as long as my arm. Don’t forget to check back later as more links are added during the day.

Stay safe, I’ll be back next weekend for another #SixOnSaturday.
