The weather is set fair for the weekend, cool but bright and sunny, a perfect late winter’s day. I’ll mainly be repairing my shed roof, which is still naked to the elements, the protective, mostly waterproof felt having blown off in last Friday’s gales. I’ve got the stuff, the weather is right, and I’m not running today, so there are no excuses. We’ll see how I got on next week! While I’m balanced on a ladder trying not fall through the roof of the shed, you can all do #SixOnSaturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, you decide. Join in!
Here are my Six for this week.
1 – Leak. This pipe carries water round the garden for various taps I have which in turn feed the drip irrigation system. This joint has been leaking for a year, I dread to think how much water has escaped. I need to re-seat that right-hand bit of pipe and/or replace the t-joint.
2 – Tulip! First sign of emerging tulip foliage, but I’ll take it. This one is in a tub with Negretta and Angel’s Wish, purple and cream respectively.
3 – Crocosmia, still not moved. Yep, the fresh growth is coming through but I haven’t moved them as planned. They get a bit swamped in this position. Something else to add to the list.
4 – Narcissi, probably Tete-a-tete, could be Martinette, or something else entirely. Unusually I have not labelled this clump. The variety is less important than the fact they will soon be brightening up this corner of the garden.
5 – Pot watch. Sticking with the bulb theme, all of the pots I cobbled together for this table top display are sprouting new growth. As noted previously, I will add crocuses and perhaps some snowdrops for next year. This table is right outside the kitchen window, so hopefully it will be a jolly view.
6 – Crocus. Nope, not moving off the bulbs. These are all out in the borders. I should plant more, it’s about all that’s flowering in February, some daffs excepted.

No, this week it’s you, Sel and Thistles and Kiwis. Hey-ho. I just have to take a different route. Your camellias are so colourful already. We were in Cornwall in mid January and noticed many camellias just coming into bud. I did mention that before but I think it was a comment that didn’t get through. Your first blue flower is a pretty shade. I haven’t had trouble from slugs ……… yet, it is rather early in the season for them isn’t it?

Love your crocus, they don’t grow so spectacular here as it’s warmer in spring in South Australia 💞🌸 I remember growing a Negrita tulip one year, ( it’s amazing the same varieties are available all around the world).I grow a lot of my bulbs in pots too to keep them moist and weed free.

We remembered to turn our outside water connection off, but had discovered a leak earlier at the point it left the house, so not good for the wall it emerged from… Good luck with all your tasks, especially the shed roof – the Golfer must have reroofed our shed several times before he eradicated the leak there!! I’ve done lots more digging up of things than I usually do, and with the crocosmia was surprised by how many corms there were strung together under the active ones. I’m hoping they will be rejuvenated for being thinned out. I’m also going to split some snowdrops this year, must do them good. oh…I really don’t want to think about the crocosmias. Mine need to be dug out and removed too. They just come up every where and take over the day lily bed. I can’t tell you how many I have thrown away in the past and there are a ton more.

nothing like pots of spring bulbs to cheer the soul. Hope you manage to fix the shed roof and the leaky pipe. It’s still very blustery down here, but I have managed to get out into the garden this week and carry out some cutting back of wind damaged perennials. And get some photos of flowers, mainly bulbs, to join in once again with all the miscreants. 😁

I’d second adding more crocus. It’s on my to do list for this autumn too. The table pot display should be very pretty when they all flower.

What a beautiful display you have coming on! It is such a pleasure to see the wee things finally grow once things warm up a bit. I followed suit and finally put most of my bulbs into pots last month, but we’re still waiting to see that they are alive and growing. There’s no shortage of ‘to do’s’ in a garden. Oh, the list that keeps on growing – unlike some of my plants which were completely destroyed in the last wind. Crocuses are fabulous and you have reminded me that I have none!

Good or bad, mine did not go as planned, but at least they are a break from those ‘pointless pictures’ that I want to use up. There will be too many more of those later.
I know I asked about your crocosmia before, but I do not remember them. Did you say that they are ‘Lucifer’, and that they were planted intentionally? I learned to dislike those that naturalized here, but actually canned some that I grew when I was a kid, and brought them here. That batch is rather weird. They can grow quite large, like hybrid gladiolus, but can also grow rather grassy in an exposed situation.
