We’re off on holiday today. From the news, it seems we’ll be spending a significant portion of it on the M20. Joy.
I’m the meantime you can do Six on Saturday. I shall be brief as I’m meant to be packing now…
1. Hollyhocks. I used to dislike these, thinking them to be giant hairy leaved weeds. Now I quite like them.
2. Echinops.
3. Rodgersia. So dry here, so little time for watering. Poor Rodger is rather parched. Oops.
4. Virginal creeper. I haven’t quite got around to the summer crowd control and it shows. There is 2 feet of it growing inside the bathroom. On the plus side, with each passing year it is doing an increasingly excellent job of hiding the uneven render.
5. Flutterby.
6. Joe Pye Weed. I removed a big clump of this last year. Persistent bugger.

I live in Seattle, Washington and had to look up what “render” is. I have a gardener coworker who is retiring. His name is Rodger. I’m hoping we can plant Rodgersias in his honor. Impressive Virginia creeper (and I like your front door!)! We have had welcome rain this week and a moderation of temperature. It is time to go on holiday soon. Love all the plants that are now in full bloom.

Have a safe trip! It is hot here as well and I am busy watering too. The hollyhocks are nice – the flowers almost remind me of miniature hibiscus. I have a few things happening in my garden now, and precious little time to deal with it. I also worked a bit on crowd control this morning!

Good luck with the journey. Hope its a little too hot for the protesters to cause disruption on the motorways. The Virginia creeper must look stunning in autumn. I used to have one in the UK and loved them 🙂

First of all, good luck with your journey, hopefully it won’t be as bad tomorrow. It has been so hard keeping up with the watering, rodgersias are prone to crispiness. I sympathise if you’re stuck on the M20, having seen the news last night! hope they get it sorted soon. My Rodgersia is in the same state as yours, even though it has an undergrownd stream beneath it! Your climber has certainly taken over, it must keep your house nice and warm!

I hope you have a lovely holiday. The Rodgerisa doesn’t look too bad compared with some here. I could have filled my Six with brown and crispy leaves (some ferns seemed to disappear almost overnight), but instead I’ve written about my short break in the South East where we visited some fabulous gardens.
