For the procrastinators, I need to research germination conditions. Some may just be taking their time, but some may require fridge time or other monkey business to prod them along.
I’ll be back, with remedial action for the procrastinators.
[update 11-Apr-17, see here for the necessary remedial action for some of the awkward squad.]
That’s some list. I’d pick out astrantia immediately and suggest you transfer them to the fridge – they need cold to break their dormancy. That said, mine have been in there for 5 weeks and, so far, haven’t woken up. My ligularia are still dormant too. But they’ve only had 23 days and can take at least as long again. And they’re erratic germinators too.
Your list is far longer than mine but, in general, where they correspond, your experience is similar to mine. So we are either both doing something right or both doing something wrong. Or maybe our seeds are in cahoots?

Funnily enough in the astrantia I actually have two seeds that are going strong, couple of inches high, I ought to fish them out. For the ones you have in the fridge, do you expect them to germinate while they’re there? In my tiny head I imagined they’d need to chill out for a few weeks, have a nice winter break, then be brought out into the warm and it was the transition that triggered the germination. I’m going to go through the whole list at the weekend and check for those that need particular attention, the awkward squad. Thanks for the tip on the astrantia, I’ll stick them in the fridge one I’ve extracted the two well behaved ones.

You have a lot of great plants there. I think I had a problem getting my mint to germinate, I think it is because they were bad seeds. I see you have carrots on your list. Have you been able to transplant those? I didn’t think they transplanted well, I did try once just to see and the root never developed into a carrot.

Re carrots, not sure whether they’ll turn out right. I’ve turned them out into modules for now. I got them transplanted pretty early so I don’t think they’ll notice they were moved. We’ll see. I might sow the next batch straight in the ground when it warms up a bit, just in case…

I will be interested if it works for you.

When did you sow the procrastinators?

Erm, middle or end of Feb I think. So not ages ago.

Actually I lie. End of January.

Definitely procrastinators in that case. I thought I had some laggards but then remembered I’d down them 9 days ago!

They’re all perennials so not necessarily quick germinators. Some may take months. More research required.

You’ve got me thinking the same.

I’ve had problems getting some on your list to germinate. Chilling may help but it is also possible that the seed wan’t fresh – that makes a huge difference. You will certainly have a very a very full garden if you plant up everything you’ve sown.

Yes, could be seed quality/freshness. And yes, it might be helpful if they continued to procrastinate, I don’t have space in the garden for the 500-odd and counting mini plants I have growing on.

Impressive! Which rudbeckia? Which artemisia….there are so many?

There sure are. The honest truth is I don’t know! The label on the artemesia faded to illegibility, and the rudbeckia is one I grew from seed last year and collected seed in the autumn. No clue what variety. Yellow one!
