Scorchio! In a rare and unusual occurrence of historical significance, it will actually be beautiful weather this bank holiday weekend, at least round these parts. I have spent a few days in the garden, some welcome time off work, or not-gardening as I now call it. Some time was spent in the hammock, very nice although I find it inevitably results in pins and needles in my feet – my considerable bulk causes a certain amount of hammock sagging, causing my legs to be somewhat akimbo. I managed to extract myself for long enough to take photos for this weeks edition of Six on Saturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything – a tulip, a tulip, a tulip or a tulip. Tulips also work well. Any tulip at all! Join in…
Here are my Six for this week.
1 – Sempervivum box. Back in January I mentioned that I had bought some slightly past-it semps at half price. I had a wooden box tray handy so I planted it with my bargain semps. It has filled out quite nicely. And there is more colour too. It has been in the same spot on the patio steps since planting and seems quite happy to have been out all winter.

2 – Wallflower, ‘Fire King’. A survivor from an iffy batch. The plants are not especially good but I’m happy enough with the flowers. I might be persuaded to get some more for next spring.
3 – Narcissus ‘Pipit’. As in life, so in daffodils, it’s often worth checking out the backside! These are fading to a pale cream as advertised but that effect is more marked in the reverse.
4 – Tulips, fully opened. Not sure of the variety, these have sprung up in a planter where I don’t recall planting any. They are enormous when opened out like this, easily the size of my palm.
5 – Tulip ‘Pittsburgh’. I was minded to ration the tulips over a few weeks but I’m afraid they may not last, so let us enjoy them while we can. Pittsburgh here is a keeper, I will definitely get more next year. I might even try to dry and store some by way of an experiment.
6 – Tulip ‘Apricot Delight’. Pretty enough, but ‘Apricot Surprise’ would be a better name since there is not a hint of apricot that I can discern.
Those are mine, what are yours? If you’d like to join in just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be fab. For more details you can refer to the brief guide.
Have a super weekend in the garden, don’t forget to check back in as more links are added during the day.
I’ll be back next weekend with another #SixOnSaturday.
Hello! I came to this week’s #SixOnSaturday a bit late but have finally got round to writing my blog post – https://wp.me/p9CZg7-2J. (I’m also @MySecretGard on Twitter.)
I’ve joined in with the tulip theme a bit! I’ve also come back from my parents’ with a pot of sempervivum so looking forward to seeing how they fare in my garden…
