There will be a distinct lack of gardening for me this weekend. Today I will be out on the South Downs Way, competing in a 50 mile foot race. As one does. Tomorrow I will be mainly eating and snoozing by way of recovery. I might get the roses fed, and I might tidy the greenhouse a bit. Or I might not.
While I’m out running for 9 or 10 hours, you can be doing Six on Saturday. Six things, in the garden, on a Saturday. Could be anything, a plant, a flower, a pest, a job to do, wildlife, anything at all. Join in!
Here are my Six for this week.
1 – Narcissus ‘Baby Boomer’. Some of the pots on my patio table are beginning to flower. This teeny daff is about the size of a 50p piece.
2 – Tulip ‘Trick’. In it’s 4th year I think, this variety is determined to make a liar out of me. I usually adopt the position that tulips are not reliable returners, which is why I rarely plant them in the ground, preferring to treat them as annuals in pots.
3 – Wisteria buds. We had a couple of frosty nights recently, I was concerned that it might have caught the wisteria at just the wrong moment, but seems like I am safe, at least for now. This rampant and now quite mature wisteria is gradually crushing the trellis against which it grows. I’m slightly at a loss as to what to do when it finally collapses. I’ll worry about that when it happens…
4 – Narcissus ‘Replete’. Probably a good thing it’s slightly out of focus, it’s rather an eyeful. A frilly double, it allegedly has a fragrance but I forgot to sniff-check it.
5 – Muscari, basic. I think they’re gradually spreading, but so imperceptibly as to be almost unmeasurable. This group sits on the edge of the wisteria border just as you go through the arch to the “working” area of the garden.
6 – Camellia ‘Nuccio’s Pearl’. This shrub seems to be in good cheer in full shade, although not terribly fast growing. I need to top dress it with some ericaceous compost (my garden soil doesn’t suit it) and some feed to boot.
Those are my Six, what are yours? If you’d like to have a go, just publish your post and pop a link to it in the comments below. If you also mention my blog in yours that would be triffic. For more details you can read the brief participant guide.
Have a super weekend, get some gardening done if you can!
I’ll be back next time for another #SixOnSaturday
I’m glad you put the name of that camellia. So pretty!

Your spring garden is looking great! I’ve been too busy (gardening and running..) to take many photos, and too tired at night to do anything with most of what I take…I hope your run went well!!

Hope you enjoyed your run earlier today! I too have been smitten by that camellia – it’s the astonishing symmetry that appeals …isn’t nature wonderful? I have recently been investigating fragrant camellias after reading an HPS article – double whammy! My six are at https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2022/04/09/six-on-saturday-glimpses/

Lovely photograph of the tulip – you really captured the texture and sheen of the petals. The camellia is a pleasing shade of pink. Here are mine: https://roguegarden.wordpress.com

A 50 mile race? Not kilometers? I thought England was kilometer country. Your camellia is just stunning. For a welcome change I have flowers this week:

Hope the run is going well and that the cold wind stops you getting too hot in the sun! Love the camellia, such beautiful symmetry in the petals. My six are here…https://www.leadupthegardenpath.com/

Love, love the Camellia. I have seen Wisteria pull trellises over. Just build another with 6×6 inch posts! Good luck running. Thanks for hosting. https://theshrubqueen.com/2022/04/09/six-on-saturday-new-for-spring/

Lots of lovely colours here Prop. The camellia is very pretty. I only have a white double which goes brown very quickly in the cold. Good luck with the run. My daughter received an invite to the London marathon, so she’s busy sorting out her training plan. Personally I can’t see the fun in running, I never got the bug, but each to his or her own! 😊

Unfortunately, my tulips follow your prediction. A few leaves and a small flower or two return. But I can’t blame the tulips alone. Squirrels and a few other varmints could well be the cause. And I could follow my mother’s and grandmother’s careful digging up and overwintering the bulbs for better results. I could. Good morning, y’all, from the Southeast USA where Augusta is hosting the Masters.
Tiger Woods has had two days of spellbinding golf. It is a miracle to be able to watch him play.
Spring has begun but the overnight temps are still dipping into the low 40 range. The increasing daylight and the intermittent rains are waking up the plant life. The temps are moderate enough to allow for hardscape projects of which there are many.

Oh good luck with your race today! I like the baby boomer, and the colour of the Camellia is stunning! I’m taking a short break from blogging, so no posts from me.

Pretty tulips and your narcissi were worth the wait. Unfortunately, most of my daffodils are over so there is now the long wait for the leaves to die back. Hope the race is going well, don’t try to read the Six-on-Saturday posts as you run!🤔🙄🏃

I absolutely love that camellia. Every time I decide they are not for me Jim in Cornwall posts a stunner, then Fred showed a beaut and now you’ve done it. It is a war of attrition and I may concede! Have a great run. I hope the weather suits a 50k run. Here’s my link – a new border planting scheme and of course tulips! https://n20gardener.com/2022/04/09/six-on-saturday-green-green-grass/

With relatives in Arundel I am familiar with parts of the South Downs Way. Running 50 miles along it is several good walks spoiled from where I’m sitting. You’ll have the perfect excuse to just lounge and enjoy all your flowers tomorrow though. Here are mine: https://wp.me/p6bCCa-3f7

Good luck with the run. I think ‘Baby Boomer’ (who named that!) is more my style rather than ‘Replete’. Fingers crossed your Wisteria continues to escape the frost.

My wisteria has suffered here… like last year. The south side and especially the east side buds have burned and the west side ones have not yet… you’re in luck! Have a good run! https://fredgardenerblog2.wordpress.com/2022/04/09/six-on-saturday-09-02-22/

For a minute with that lovely Camelia I thought I had opened Jim’s post! How you cover so many miles is amazing. Are you running from something, or to something? You certainly are wonderfully driven to inspire us all to join and appreciate our gardens. Here are my Six: https://noellemace.blogspot.com/2022/04/six-on-saturday-snowflakes-and-beyond.html

What the heck?! 50 miles?! Ten hours?! And you take time to do this?! That is like running from San Jose to San Francisco in a day!
Well, I do like you grape hyacinth. I know it is relatively simple compared to you other pictures, but I do happen to be fond of it (just in case you had not noticed all my bragging about my recent acquisition of white grape hyacinth).
Anyway, here are mine.
